Sept. 22nd Mango Workshop
(tentative start time of 9:00 am HST)
Current research in Hawaii is evaluating the effectiveness of Thyme Guard®, an organically certified plant essential oil (EO) product, on pathogens of mango such as anthracnose (Colletotrichum spp.) and powdery mildew (Oidium mangiferae). This multi-state project will also research EOs on mango in S. Florida, peach in N. Florida and S. Carolina, blueberry in N. Florida and Georgia, and avocado in S. Florida and California. Another Hawaii project is researching the use of potassium nitrate to stimulate off-season mango production.

These mango projects are funded by USDA NIFA’s Organic Agriculture Research and Extension Initiative Project number 2020-51300-32181 titled “Plant Safety, Horticultural Benefits, and Disease Efficacy of Essential Oils for Use in Organically Grown Fruit Crops: From the Farm to the Consumer”, the Hawaii Department of Agriculture, and Smith-Lever project 20-013 and 22-015 funds managed by the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources.
