Hawaii Mango Research Projects Hybrid Workshop

Begins at 9:00 AM Available online via Zoom and in-person at the Kona Cooperative Extension and Research Station. (79-7381 Mamalahoa Highway, Kealakekua, HI 96750) Seating is limited in the conference room. Registration is required. Join us to learn about mango production and current research in Hawai‘i that’s evaluating the effectiveness of Thyme Guard®, an organically certified plant essential oil (EO) product, on pathogens of mango such as anthracnose (Colletotrichum spp.) and powdery mildew (Oidium mangiferae). This multi-state project is also researching EOs on mango in S. Florida, peach in N. Florida and S. Carolina, blueberry in N. Florida and Georgia, and avocado in S. Florida and California. Another Hawai‘i project is researching the use of potassium nitrate to stimulate off-season mango production. This is a free event.

Researchers and presenters are Dr. Lisa Keith, Lionel Sugiyama, and MaryAnn Villalun of USDA-ARS DKI US PBARC, and Jensen Uyeda and Matthew Miyahira of UH-CTAHR. These mango projects are funded by USDA NIFA’s Organic Agriculture Research and Extension Initiative Project number 2020-51300-32181 titled “Plant Safety, Horticultural Benefits, and Disease Efficacy of Essential Oils for Use in Organically Grown Fruit Crops: From the Farm to the Consumer”, the Hawaii Department of Agriculture, and Smith-Lever project 20-013 and 22-015 funds managed by the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources.
