Coffee Berry Borer Update Meeting and Farm Visits

Tuesday, March 12, 2019
5:30 PM (Maui Coffee Association general meeting to follow)
Kula Community Center
E. Lower Kula Rd.
Kula, Maui, HI 96790

All are welcome to attend the MCA meeting and CBB update. To schedule a coffee farm visit, contact Andrea at andreak@hawaii.edu to make an appointment. Farm visits are limited and based on a first come, first served basis.

Coffee Berry Borer (CBB), a damaging pest of coffee, was found on Maui in 2016 and has continued to spread to farms and wild coffee on the island. This beetle bores into the fruit and damages the seed, affecting coffee yield and quality. If left uncontrolled, CBB can cause over 80% cherry infestation and lead to immense damage to the Hawaii coffee industry. CBB is controlled using integrated pest management (IPM), which uses a combination of different techniques, as no single method will control CBB on its own.

UH-CTAHR, USDA, HDOA and the Maui Coffee Association welcomes you to join us at this informational CBB update meeting for coffee farmers. Topics will include:

  • CBB Integrated Pest Management Updates
  • HDOA Beauveria Subsidy Program – Save ($) on CBB control products
  • Update on current coffee research projects
  • Maui coffee farm visits are limited, but available by appointment; contact Andrea at andreak@hawaii.edu

CBB outreach is funded by UH-CTAHR, HDOA, and USDA.
