UH-CTAHR welcomes you to participate in a coffee pruning field day event held at the Calumpit Farm (Mar. 3) and Kaʻū Coffee Mill (Mar. 4) in Pahala. The goal of these events is for growers to learn about the when, why, and how’s of coffee pruning as well as learn about an exploratory trial of different pruning techniques.
During the field days, participants will be provided a demonstration of strip-picking as well as the Kona-style (selective) and stump-pruning (with nurse vertical) techniques. Mostly stump pruning will be demonstrated on Mar. 4 since this farm is pruned using this style. Strip-picking is the most important CBB control activity required prior to pruning.
Future events will include desuckering and the removal of the nurse vertical.
This event is co-sponsored by UH-CTAHR, USDA, HDOA and the Kaʻū Coffee Mill, and in cooperation with the mill, Kaʻū Coffee Growers Cooperative and United Kaʻū Farmers Cooperative.
Speakers include: Andrea Kawabata and Matt Miyahira of CTAHR
If you register and are unable to make the workshop, please contact Gina at 808-322-4892 or Andrea at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible. There may be a wait list and we would like to provide someone else with the opportunity to attend.
