Nutrients can also be provided to a plant via fertigation which relies on macro- and micro-nutrients [105] dissolved in water, then injected through an irrigation system, and supplied to the soil and plant roots. The initial set-up of a fertigation system can be costly but over time, labor costs can be minimized with an automated system. Timely maintenance and the availability of adequate water is also necessary for such a system to be effective.
