2026 Coffee & Orchard Crops Webinars with LIVE Q&A

This is a free event and open to all, but registration is required to receive the Zoom link.

This is a free event and open to all. Speakers from USDA ARS PBARC, HARC, UH-CTAHR, Lokoea Farms, the Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers, and more, will share information and updates on coffee and fruit tree research and outreach projects. 

​See who’s presenting, their topics, other guest speakers, and any changes at the website below. There will be one or two presenters during each webinar. All presentations will be followed by a LIVE Q&A session with the speaker(s).


Here's the schedule for each session:
  • 12:00 PM - Start with a brief introduction and then the speaker begins
  • Following the final PPT(s) - Live Q&A session with the presenter(s)

  • Jan. 27 (2 presentations) - 1) SPLAT/Verbenone repellent for bark beetles in Hawaii including CBB in coffee, and TNB in mac nut by Dr. Mark Wright of CTAHR;  2) "Research update on systemic and biological fungicides for the management of coffee leaf rust in Hawaii" by Dr. Zhiqiang Cheng of CTAHR. 
  • Feb. 3 (2 presentations) - 1) Citrus tree planting and pruning by Noe Neumann of Lokoea Farms; 2) Asian Citrus Psyllid on Tahitian lime by Andrea Kawabata of CTAHR
  • Feb. 10 - Banana presentation by Dr. Amjad Ahmad of UH-CTAHR.
  • Feb. 17 (2 presentations) - 1) Improving coffee nutrition in Hawaii: Statewide assessment of soil fertility, leaf nutrients, and on-farm practices by Dr. Melissa Johnson of USDA-PBARC; 2) Coffee pruning research update by Luis Aristizabal. Possible 3rd short presentation on HDOA's CBB/CLR Subsidy Program by Miles Mayne.
  • Mar. 3 (2 presentations) - 1) Overview of pesticide laws, key things in labels, and personal protective equipment (PPE) by Mark Dragich of CTAHR; 2) CLR fungicide field trial research update by Luis Aristizabal.
  • Mar. 10 - pending
  • Mar. 17 - Macadamia nut research update by Dr. Angel Acebes-Doria who conducted the research while with USDA-PBARC.
  • Mar. 24 (2 presentations) - 1) Root-knot and entomopathogenic nematodes by Dr. Roxana Myers of USDA-PBARC; 2) About the USDA Germplasm Repository in Hilo by Ryan Domingo of USDA-PBARC.
  • Mar. 31 (2 presentations) - 1) Fungal attackers of multiple crops/projects by Dr. Lisa Keith of USDA-PBARC; 2) Record keeping and tools by Dr. SongYi Paik of CTAHR. Possible 3rd short presentation on HDOA's CBB/CLR Subsidy Program by Miles Mayne.
  • Apr. 7 - Current, common challenges that fruit growers experience and their solutions by Ken Love of the Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers.
  • Apr. 14 (2 presentations) - 1) CBB parasitoid update Dr. Melissa Johnson of USDA-PBARC; 2) Updates on HARC's coffee breeding program by Dr. Ming-Li Wang of HARC. Possible 3rd short presentation on HDOA's CBB/CLR Subsidy Program by Miles Mayne.
