UH‐CTAHR’s Cooperative Extension welcomes you to an educational, interactive, and hands‐on field day for the 30 trees sampling method for coffee berry borer, Hypothenemus hampei (CBB), monitoring. CBB is considered one of the more important and devastating insect pests of coffee. They are currently found throughout Hawaii Island and on selected farms on Oahu and Maui.
The goal of this field day is to train growers on the sampling technique as well as how to use the results in their decision‐making process for CBB management.
During this field day, participants will receive a brief overview of CBB management followed by a demonstration of the 30 trees sampling method. They will then put their newly learned skills to the test by conducting the sampling in a coffee field. Instructors will be available to assist during the field sampling and then will review the results and have an open discussion with participants.
Participants should bring a clean, sharp knife or pruning shears for the dissection portion of the field day.
Speakers include: Andrea Kawabata, Jen Burt & Matt Miyahira of CTAHR.
Participants should come prepared for sun or rain. We recommend:
• Closed-toe shoes
• T-shirt or light-weight long sleeve shirt
• Light-weight pants or shorts
• Hat or visor
Provided: water, mosquito repellent, & waterproof shoe coverings during field tour
Registration is required.
This class is limited to 30 participants.
If you register and are unable to make the workshop, please contact Matt at email@example.com. There may be a wait list and we would like to provide someone else with the opportunity to attend the workshop.
